PODIUM DELIGHT FOR MORRIS AND DAWSON ON GT CUP DEBUT AT DONINGTON PARK

    •  Seb Morris, Charles Dawson team-up to take double GT Cup podium
    • RAM Racing duo deliver excellent weekend on debut at Donington
    • Pro racer Morris delighted with silverware and Dawson’s progress

Former British GT Champion Seb Morris delivered an impressive showing on his racing return at Donington Park National Circuit over the weekend, 1st/2nd April, with a highly competitive podium finish just reward for a sparkling debut in the GT Cup Championship.Even though having been away from competitive track action for 10 months, and with the fresh challenge of a new car – the Mercedes-AMG GT4 – a new team environment with RAM Racing and a new team-mate in Charles Dawson, Morris took no time at all to showcase his renowned speed.

Newcomer Dawson started off the weekend with fourth place in the GTH class in the round one Sprint Race on Saturday at the Leicestershire track, before he and Morris combined to secure an excellent and very well deserved second position in the round two Feature Race later in the day.

On Sunday, Dawson made it two podiums from two with another fantastic drive in the round three Sprint Race – finishing just 0.7 seconds shy of victory and posting the fastest GTH lap with a time of 1m10.169 seconds (101.53mph). In round four, Morris and Dawson were sixth.

Seb Morris:
“We got straight on it this weekend and I have to say, I am very impressed with Charles. His innate talent to race is excellent, he was battling at the front with the top guys from the outset and so I’ve got very high hopes for our partnership going forward. The GT4 has less aero than the GT3 I’ve been used to, of course, so you have to ‘stop’ the car a lot more for corner entry, whereas in GT3 I would be concentrating more on carrying the speed through.

“I only had one dry lap before the first race, as Charles had the bulk of the practice time, so I jumped in and within about three or four laps I was happy with the pace. For race two something clicked, I was dialled in straight away and it was obviously fantastic to take our first podium. The overall performance was very pleasing.

“The Mercedes GT4 is a very good car, the pace is strong and the guys at RAM Racing did a great job all weekend. It was nice to coach Charles and see him deliver such a strong weekend on his debut, for him to get the fastest lap in Sunday’s sprint race as well was a great bonus. I can’t wait for the next rounds at Brands.”

Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in Kent will host the next rounds of the GT Cup Championship season over the weekend 29th/30th April. In the meantime, check out the racing from this past weekend at Donington Park at the GT Cup YouTube channel HERE
