Seb Morris added a second British GT Championship title to his impressive resume at the weekend (September 28/29) as he secured the GT4 Pro-Am honours to his overall GT3 success, with a smart drive at Brands Hatch.
Coming into the weekend, Seb and his Am teammate Charles Dawson were in the hunt for both the Pro-Am and overall GT4 titles but knew the latter would be a tall order with the duo having to serve an extra 10 seconds Pitstop Compensation after their second place finish last time out.
The first free practice session unfolded under cool yet beautifully sunny skies. Charles and Seb opted for a conservative approach, mindful of the damp patches on certain sections of the track, while in pre-qualifying, the duo secured a solid fourth-place finish.
Later that afternoon, during the official qualifying session, Charles delivered an impressive lap to claim the fastest time, while Seb placed third as their combined efforts secured pole position in GT4 Pro-Am and fifth overall on the grid.
Sunday’s race day began with a brief morning warm-up before the season finale got underway after lunch. The Safety Car was deployed on the opening lap to recover a stranded GT3 car from the gravel as Charles, running fourth overall in GT4 and leading the Pro-Am class, maintained a comfortable buffer both ahead and behind once the race resumed. He dropped one place overall but remained focused, aware that their main title rivals were facing difficulties.
Charles navigated through a Full Course Yellow period before handing the car over to Seb, with the team rejoining the race fifth in GT4 but still leading the Pro-Am category, though with a narrower gap to the competition. With one of their title contenders gaining almost an entire lap advantage, the team’s focus shifted to securing the Pro-Am championship where Seb’s experience proved crucial as he avoided battling with the cars behind, opting instead for a measured drive to the finish line, clinching the 2024 Pro-Am championship.
With Seb adding GT4 Pro-Am to his overall GT3 title, he cements his place as one of the most successful drivers in British GT Championship history, with six victories and 16 podiums, despite being just 28 years of age. He will now enjoy the off season, with plans for 2025 to be announced in due course. |
